The First Organic Villages in the Sikkim are situated under
the Yangsum Gram Panchayat under the Hee Bermiok Constituency.
The first certified organic villages in the State of Sikkim are situated
under the Yangsum Gram Panchayat Unit under the Hee Bermiok Constituency
of West Sikkim. 164 farmers residing in the villages Meyong, Megyong, chingthang
and Burfok have had the Proud distinction of being officially
certified organic.
The process of certification took place under the leadership of Dr. Sandip Banarjee of Sikkim Binding Industries
Daragoan along with his dedicated staff. The certifications project was initiated in the
month of August when Dr. Banarjee conducted an Internal Control Inspection.
Various training was also organised.
The first All Women Farmers club in the state was launched in the village Meyong by mobilizing
the women in the villages.
