PHYSICAL FEATURES:

 The constituency falls in the west district of State under Soreng sub-division with a total geographical area of 42.9039 sqkm. It is bounded by kalez Khola in the North, Hee-Khola in the West, Rangeet and Rangsang Khola in the East and Samdung Reserve Forest and Hee-Patal in the South. It lies in 26º 4’ and 28º 7’48” North Latitudes and    86º’ and 88º 55’25” East Longitude. The elevation ranges approximately from 500 to 2200msl. It consist of Middle and higher hills comprises of sub-tropical to temperate zone.  

The terrains of the constituency consist of steep to moderately steep slopes of 15 to 45%. The climate is sub-tropical to temperate with the higher belts receiving high rainfall during the year. The lower belts are generally hot during the summer seasons. The maximum temperature in recorded in the month of July-August and the minimum during December-January. The higher regions experience severe cold during winter.

  The rainfall of the area varies from moderate to high according to the topography and altitude. The higher hills receive maximum rainfall during May-September. The lower belt of the constituency especially the Myiong, Chingthang, Sangadorgee, Barthang, Rangsang etc. remain dry in most of the period of the year.

            The Bermiok   Constituency area is entirely falls within the catchment of Rangeet and Kalez Khola river. The Principal rivulets Hee-Khola, Kiong- Khola, Bhute Khola, Rangsang Khola and many other perennial streams which has comparatively high flow of water during rainy season. The rainfall in higher catchments area are quite high and heavy sediments delivery and run off discharge caused flash floods draining out total quantum of rain water to Kalez and Rangeet River. There are few watersheds perennial springs which helps out to the rural population for drinking water supply irrigation channels are provided for agriculture farming by State irrigation department. Due to heavy drought during summer, most of dry and wet crop including orchard and vegetable farming is affected and living standard of rural population is comparatively poor.

LANDUSE PATTERN:

 The constituency area comprises of private farmland, reserve forests, gaucharan, khasmal, slip reserve. There are series of denuded hills and ravines, gully formation due to heavy landslide and sediments delivery from the upper region of the catchment area. The lower catchment area mostly Meyong, Chingthang, Barphok, Megong are drought prevalent area and the vegetation is very sparse and due to the heavy rainfall in the upper regions of the constituency area accumulates heavy discharge of surface rainwater resulting into heavy sediments delivery in the lower region. As a result there have been massive landslide areas like Ratheymatai Simulbutay/Rangsang slip, Bhutey Khola slip and Phecrek slip. There are many small landslide areas within the constituency also for which an independent agency has to be engaged for identification and preparation of major land slide areas including smaller one and to prepare Treatment Plan by adopting suitable measures in order to check further degradation of land and to decrease loss of property of the people and natural resources from the constituency area. The practice of dry cultivation due to unprecedented cultivation of maize, ginger, wheat, potatoes, etc. in which heavy soil erosion problems occurs during flash floods in rainy season. There are limited terraced wet cultivation practiced in the valleys and river belt by means of minor irrigations systems. Vegetables and horticulture crops like ginger, orange, potato tomato, beans, papaya, are the subsidiary crop to support the poor rural masses of constituency area. The occurrence of drought and unprecedented rainfall, and other adverse factor are not only causing detrimental reflect to the common agricultural production but also to forestry crop.
